The Product
Is this a fixed gear bike?
Well, yes and no. You do have the choice to go fixed on a Bike by Me. It has a flip-flop hub, so you simply turn the wheel to get in fixed mode. All bikes are however assembled in single speed as default with brakes both front and rear fully assembled and adjusted. In other words, unless you want something else, Bike by Me is a fully normal bike like your grandmother has, except it is super light weight, super good looking and super fast.
What is fixed gear?
In a technical sence, fixed gear refers to the rear cog which is fixed. This means that you cannot rest your legs downhill, the crank turns constantly with the wheels. Fixed can also refer to a trend and style within the bicycle industry. Originated from the hard core bike messengers in New York that wanted a simple, long lasting, fast bike that wouldn’t give them trouble, hence, they choose to simply take away all unessecary items like fenders, rack, chain covers etc. On Bike by Me, we simply choose this style of bike because we think it is beautiful and because we think it is the perfect canvas for you when you start to design your utopic bike.
How is quality?
Well, we are biased, so the best tip would be to ask some of our customers what they think. If you don’t know anyone with a Bike by Me, all we can say is that we have customers who just recently enterred a race of 300 km and went through with it, we asked her what we could improve, but unfortunately she couldn’t come up with anything, claiming that the bike was perfect. Read more about that story here. Bike by Me has only been active for one year and we have so far been through a lot of suppliers to our components, from Sweden to far east Asia. In the beginning, we took a lot from China, but today most major parts come from Taiwan and bicycle producing companies with a close to 40 year old experience. Thanks to improved efficiency of systems and processes we are now purchasing components with an up to five times higher cost than we did in the beginning, and we will continue building our company with no less than hi quality components and the development of these.
Can I add fenders?
We designed the frame so it can be mounted with fenders of most brands. We are not selling any by ourselves yet, but we will, and when we do, they will be beautiful.
How can the bike be so light?
Well, it is a very stripped down bike, but we also use light weight materials like CrMo steel and aluminium. CrMo steel is a steel alloy that are often used in better quality bikes because of it’s extra strength, making it possible to create really thin chambers of frame parts, without effecting the frame’s properties.
Isn’t it a pain in the *!” to go up-hill witout any gears?
Thanks to the light weight, the quality in the bike and hi pressurized tires, the friction is a lot less than you would experience on an ordinary bike. We had 70 year old customers telling us that they didn’t get the concept of these bikes until they tried it in an up hill. As long as you but a little push on the pedals, the bikes will get you where you are going faster and easier than most bikes out there.
Why is there two sizes of frames?
To make sure the bike is a bike by you of course! You can make your adjustments on height, angle and length with your seat, and to some extent with your handlebar and stem. But we also think that the Bike by Me should have a wide range of users, and then we have to get you two sizes of frames. Size medium has a frame height of 54 cm (21 inch) and we recommend this frame for people less than 175 cm tall. The large size is 58 cm and we recoomend that to everyone else.

What do I need to assemble when receiving the bike?
Your bike is delivered in a nice white box for protection during shipping. The bike is fully assembled by us before it leaves us. We then disassemble the front wheel, handle bar, pedals and seat post to make it fit in the box. You will need a spanner key 15, but all other stuff is included in the package.
Can I have the bike shipped to another address?
Sure! Just send us an email after the order has been laid and we will take care of it. If you are using Swedish Klarna to pay for your product, we can however only send the bike to you home address.
Service & Maintenance
What tire pressure should I have?
These tires should be more pressurized than ordinary tires. We recommend a pressure of around 7-10 kg. The pressure is partly a question of what you prefer personally, but you can say that there is a correlation between your weight and the pressure, the heavier you are, the higher the pressure should be.
Should I grease the chain?
All chains should be greased with some sort of lubrication at some point. Our chain are however teflon coated and will last a long time witout any extra lubrication. The chain will quickly be dirty if you but a standard lubrication on it, and we think that this is the reason why are customers don’t normally grease it.
Do I have to check bolts and screws on the bike?
Always check bolts and screws before riding! We carefully check everything before sending you the bike, but screws and bolts must be maintained on a regular basis by you.
